Anyone who watched one of Rafael Nadal’s matches at this year’s Wimbledon saw something that has never been seen in professional tennis; he wore a watch during play. Now while this may not seem like anything crazy to a non-player, to anyone who knows the game this new addition to his wardrobe could certainly affect his play. The added weight of any normal sports watch could affect not only his toss, but his backhand as well. So one knew the watch must be extremely light. We now know that this watch was not only shockingly light, but also shockingly expensive.

We’re generally fans of GQ here at FreddieBlack, but sometimes we ask ourselves what the hell they’re thinking. One such occasion came when we were flipping through this month’s issue with the Taylor Lautner cover and came across their swim trunks feature. Not only did the suits highlighted border on Dolce&Gabanna/ Calvin Klein ad homoeroticism, but it is also is clear that anyone in lesser physical shape than Mehcad Brooks would look completely foolish in most of the trunks. So Freddie decided to show you a few of his favorites and we’re sure there is something in here for everyone.

There may only be one of Keith’s magical skull rings in existence and there is certainly only one Keith, but now you can get the closest possible thing to the genuine article. When Keith first got his iconic ring as a birthday present from David Courts and Bill Hackett in 1978, little did he know he had just received what would become arguably the most recognizable ring in history. The ring and its famous wearer have garnered numerous imitators, from kids at Hot Topic to Johnny Depp, but if you want the real thing from the real source, there’s only one place to go.

Someone asked us the other day which was our favorite cologne. This got us to thinking because most times an eau de toliette or cologne is best for a certain time of year. Maybe it’s fall and the leaves are changing colors. You would want something woody and rich, like a great class of scotch. If the time of year is spring or summer, most would prefer a more youthful cologne with grass, fruits and hints of the ocean. Once we really began to think and go through our collections, one rose above the rest as the single best solution to a year-round perfume.

Take a quick look inside the closet of any of your female friends or relatives and you will surely stumble upon the infamous “little black dress.” After all, every girl and woman owns at least one. There is no doubt that this age-old garment’s greatest advantages are its eternal elegance and unique utility. But what about us?

This is the time of year when the changes start to occur. For the past six or seven months, most of us who wear a tie to work from nine to five wear dress shoes almost always, with the exception of possibly the weekend or our nightly run (if you’re not comfortable with a pair of dress shoes, you need to be.) Though with the passing of Easter and the warming of the waters, we have many more opportunities to get our ankles some air, and often times a more casual route is the way to go.

Freddie has always been a fan of hats. Whether its a perfectly worn in baseball cap during a day at the beach or a crisp felt fedora out on the town, a well made hat would not go unnoticed in his hands. This month’s DVD release of the Chicago-loving, gun-wielding, historically inaccurate Public Enemies got us thinking, and got us a phone call from Freddie. “Those hats are from Optimo,” he said. Knowing that director Michael Mann was an accuracy buff (interesting, considering there were more than a few falsities in the story), Freddie knew the hats were made in Chicago, probably at the closest source to where Dillinger would have gotten his. This means only one name, Optimo Fine Hats.

Jeans are like nipples; everyone’s got a pair. The only problem is that in today’s high-fashion world, finding a good pair jeans is harder than finding a parking spot in Manhattan. For this reason, we choose to salute an original. Levi Strauss changed the world when he pieced together a few yards of denim to create the first pair of “blue jeans” in the 1870’s. Throughout the time since, there have been literally thousands of jean companies that have come and gone with the tides, but Levi has staying power …
