You only live life once on this Earth, and it is up to you to create the legacy which will ultimately be the only thing you leave behind. What do you want those who knew you to say about you? And what about the things you did and said? It is easy to live only seeing day to day, but by building a life list, you can keep all your desires in front of you and knock them down one by one.

So what goes into a life list and what qualifies to be on it? The answer is that it is completely up to you. There is nothing too small or big to be on your list as long as it is something you can truly say you want to do by the time you die. But how do you compile such a list? There are a few guidelines to follow and a few suggestions we will throw your way that you can feel free to use or not. The most important thing about a life list is that it is for you and you alone. Just remember, do not write anything on the list that you will not be prepared to go the lengths required to accomplish when the right opportunity presents itself.

Make It Big

We here at Freddie like to make our lists big. We either have a big notebook that we write lists on each page of, adding new ones to the pages as they produce themselves. Others of us use Excel or Word to create a list, but we recommend against only keeping the list on something like a computer that could crash. Still others of us that have white boards up filled with goals.

Fake It Until You Make It

When writing goals, it is extremely important to be as vivid and detailed as possible. You must really put yourself in the moment and record everything you see and feel. It is also important to go back and read these goals on a regular basis and put yourself right in the moment. This is a part of Think and Grow rich that we believe is especially important.

Break It Up

When first thinking about the possibility of writing down all your life’s goals, the task can certainly seem daunting. It really should not be though, if you break it up into different groups and simply start by putting one goal in each. Again, everything is up to you, but one proven way is to write down several broad areas of your life like money & business, family, love, travel, and whatever else you would like to include. Just add the goals as they come to you to whichever category it fits into.

Order Up!

Once you have a fair amount of goals in each category, order them from easiest to most difficult to accomplish, and when we say accomplish, we don’t just mean the skill involved on your part. One goal may be to do stand up at a comedy club, which you can certainly accomplish in your city. Another goal may be to attend an Olympic Games which of course only occurs once every two years, so it would probably be a 2 to the stand up’s 1 on your list.

TCB (Taking Care of Business)

Now that you have this organised life list, it is important to do something about it. Chose one goal to accomplish every month, while also keeping the higher-numbered goals in mind as well. If it takes you longer than a month to attain the goal of your choice, that’s totally fine. Just spend as long as it takes to accomplish and then move on. Save the money or build the relationships that are be necessary to accomplish your long term goals, and try to scratch at least one off the list a year.

If you take the time to build your list, and also to accomplish the goals on it, you will be stunned at what your life will begin to look like. If you lived the next twenty years with the goal of everyday working to cross more goals off your list, you will live a very full and satisfying life. Just remember, Freddie was there from the beginning cheering you on!
